ROUGH MAGIC AND PARLOR TRICKS

Kathy Weinberg
July 2 – August 27, 2026

About This Exhibition

This exhibition spans several years and focuses on current paintings with themes of illusion and light. The “Rough Magic” of the title alludes to Shakespeare’s character Prospero, who tells us the pageantry of all things will dissolve and vanish. The parlor tricks are the paintings. Weinberg’s scenes focus on details, interiors, and enter deep space. This world, often activated by light switches, is suffused with plant and animal life, volcanos, meteor showers. The inhabitants are depicted in contemplation but with a hint of unrest.
