About Us

The Maine Jewish Museum is located in a turn-of-the-century immigrant house of worship restored to its original condition. The building stands as a testament to the Jewish families of Maine who worked so hard to build this facility over a century ago.

The Museum showcases photographic and historical displays that highlight the contributions of Maine’s Jewish community members, past and present. Our rotating contemporary art exhibitions feature Jewish-connected and Maine-connected artists, as well as topical themes relevant to the Maine Jewish community. We also offer diverse programming that builds on the Maine Jewish immigrant experience to foster appreciation and understanding among people of all backgrounds.

    • Mission, Vision, Values

We celebrate and honor the contributions of Maine’s Jewish community members, past and present. Through art exhibitions, historical displays, and diverse programming, we build on the Maine Jewish immigrant experience to foster appreciation and understanding among people of all backgrounds.

    • The Delet Program: Opening the Door to Greater Understanding

      Mission

“Delet” is the Hebrew word for “door,” and the mission of the Delet Program is to share our experiences and open a door to greater understanding of Jews and Judaism among diverse Maine middle and high school students. With the United States arguably more polarized than at any time in history, antisemitism increasing at an alarming rate, and brazen and hateful divisions playing out in almost every aspect of American life, this kind of bridge-building is more important now than ever — particularly among our youth, in whose hands our future lies.

    • Support the MJM
