A Song and a Prayer – Maine Cantors and Musicians in Concert

Sunday, October 22, 2023
3:00 om – 4:00 pm (reception to follow)

In honor of our NEW cantorial exhibit, we invite you to join us for a live concert of cantorial music at the Maine Jewish Museum.

Here in Maine, we are fortunate to have ordained cantors, lay leaders who serve as cantors, choirs who have performed cantorial music, and even a composer who continues to write this music today. A Song and a Prayer: Maine Cantors and Musicians in Concert brings them all together for a singular musical and spiritual encounter in a magnificent, century-old historical synagogue building.

Come experience the beauty, power, and variety of the cantorial voice — music that has been a part of Maine’s Jewish communities since 1849 — in a setting meant for song. Participating cantors include:

  • Dr. Morton Gold, composer, Springvale
  • Rabbi Sruli Dresdner and Lisa Mayer, Temple Shalom Synagogue Center, Lewiston
  • Dr. Sidney Block, Lay cantor, Congregation Beth El, Bangor
  • Adas Yoshuron choir, directed by Dr. Dana Goldsmith, Rockland
  • Cantor Beth Strassler, Congregation Etz Chaim, Biddeford

Reception immediately following concert.
