Lowry’s Lodge Holiday Open Reading

Sunday, December 15, 2024
2:00 – 4:00pm

Cozy up and settle into the Season of Lights with poets Anna Wrobel and Jim Donnelly hosting a reading in MJM’s chapel. We begin with featured poet and beloved English professor, Kevin Sweeney, followed by Open Poetry Hour. Snacks, beverages, chocolates and social gathering will enhance our sharing of the light through words of insight and beauty.

From Waking City to Lowry’s Lodge, Jim Donnelly and Anna Wrobel have long hosted readings in iconic venues – Portland’s Hinge Gallery and Bard Coffee, Westbrook’s Acorn Theater, Saccarappa Art Collective and Continuum for Creativity. They struck first gold for featured poets at Steve Luttrell’s exceptional poetry open at Mike Levine’s Oak Street Theater. The quarterly reading is now gladly at home at Maine Jewish Museum. Anna and Jim are collectively: musician, historian, composer, teacher, poet, prose writer, essayist, laborer.

About the poet:

Kevin Sweeney is a professor and English Department Chair at Southern Maine Community College. His latest collection from Maine’s Moon Pie Press is Imminent Tribulations. Kevin has taught at SMCC since 1983 and is a poetry editor at Cafe Review. He’s done interviews with Martin Espada, Margaret Randall, Carl Dennis and other major contemporary poets.
