The Maine Jewish Museum maintains a robust schedule of events, most of which are free and all of which are open to the general public (the Maine Jewish Museum is by no means “just for Jews!”) . These Video Highlights Reels provide a glimpse into a select few of our goings-on. We hope they convince you to come check out our upcoming exhibitions and programs.
What happens when African American musical traditions and Jewish musical traditions meet — not as a fusion experiment, but as a shared language of history, resilience, and joy? The Afro-Semitic Experience answers that question with music that is soulful, searching, celebratory, and deeply human. Rooted in jazz, blues, gospel, swing, klezmer, and improvisation, the Afro-Semitic Experience creates a powerful musical conversation that honors the distinct histories of Black and Jewish communities while illuminating the profound connections between them.

The first anniversary of the October 7 massacre was the final day of our Stich Them Home yellow ribbon exhibition, featuring yellow ribbons lovingly hand-stitched by diverse Maine community members in solidarity with the innocent civilians still held hostage in Gaza. The installation was set up “tunnel style” to symbolize the underground tunnels where many hostages are still held captive. Soft Israeli music played in the background as visitors were invited to walk through the tunnel and view photos of the hostages. A recitation of Israeli-themed poetry (in Hebrew and English, with celebrated Maine poet Anna Wrobel) followed in our century-od synagogue sanctuary.
Our 2024 Fashion, Food, and Fun(d)raiser was an electric evening of fashion, food, and fun celebrating our diverse community through the stories we wear. A runway show highlighting Maine Jewish, immigrant, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and differently-abled fashion designers and models was amplified by an internationally inspired cocktail and small plates hour, live music by the multinational and multigenerational Bondeko, an exciting auction, and a decadent dessert display for a grand finale and sweet ending.
