Hole in the Head Review Poetry Reading Series – April 2023

The Maine Jewish Museum is proud to be collaborating with Hole in the Head Review to host quarterly poetry readings at the Museum.

Two acclaimed Maine poets, Betsy Sholl and Mimi White, will be the featured April readers.

Betty Sholl, who teaches in the MFA in Writing Program at the Vermont College of Fine Arts, recently published her tenth collection of poetry, As If a Song Could Save You (University of Wisonsin Press, 2022). She served as Poet Laureate of Maine from 2006 – 2011 and was awarded the 2020 Distinguished Achievement Award from the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance. Other awards include a Maine Book Award for Poetry, the Felix Pollak Prize, and the AWP Prize for Poetry,

Mimi White is the author of five poetry collections. Her work has been honored with the Philbrick Poetry Award and the Jane Kenyon Award for Outsanding Poetry. During the isolating days of the pandemic, she invented the “nonagon,” a nine-line poem (more or less), which feel similar to an American tanka. Her publisher is Jeffrey Hastem whose publishibg house, Deerbrook Editions, is located in Cumberland, Maine.
