About This Exhibition

In the pop-up space, artist Joyce Ellen Weinstein presents her limited edition, hand pulled by the artist, linoleum block prints on hand made paper. “These works are my personal interpretation of biblical characters from a contemporary perspective, and how their life’s struggles are universal to this day.”

About the Artist

Joyce Ellen Weinstein is a recent transplant to the Portland Maine area from NYC. Some fellowships include: Maine Arts Commission Grant, Vermont Studio Center, Mishkenot Sha’ananim, Israel; Social-Cultural Center, Prague; Blue Mountain Center, NY; Europe’s Parkas Museum, Lithuania; ChaNorthChashama, NY. She painted a mural in Prague after the Soviet fall. Some collections include: YIVO Institute, NYC; National Museum of Women in the Arts, DC; HUC Bernard Heller Museum, NYC; FL Holocaust Museum; Gallery-Junge KunstWerkStart, Vienna; Social-Cultural Center, Prague; Amnesty International; Einchen America, Princeton, NJ; Terezin Holocaust Museum, Czech Republic; Vilna Gain Jewish State Museum, Lithuania; Derfner Judaica Museum NY; Arts and Military, DC, B’nai Jeshurun Library, NYC. She is featured in such publication as the following, among others: Fixing the World: Jewish American Artists of the Twentieth Century, Sri B. Soltes, New England U. Press, The Book as Art, National Museum of Women in the Arts, and more. Some awards include: Fulbright Senior Specialist and First Place winner for Scenic Design in Dance, Edgeworks Dance Theater, Washington DC. Education: BA, MFA The City University of NY, SUNY.
