Rick Graff
January 9 – February 28, 2025
About This Exhibition
This exhibition captures the artist’s emotions and reflections since moving to Maine in August 2022. “Upon arrival, my artistic style has evolved, as I’ve experienced a newfound calmness in my work,” says Graff. “These paintings were created in a bright, sunny corner of our home in Munjoy Hill, where limited space did not limit their expansive, spatial quality. This series is a tribute to the inspiration Portland has given me, documenting the way the city has influenced my artistic expression and transformed my creative journey. Each piece is a reflection of the peace and inspiration I’ve found in my new environment.”
About the Artist
Rick Graff was born in South Africa and moved to the U.S. more than 30 years ago, settling with his wife in Portland, Maine in 2022. Creativity has been a constant in his life, whether through architecture, graphic design, or furniture design. He has a clothing and dinnerware line, both styled after his art, and has exhibited in Arizona, Madrid, and Luxembourg. Graff is particularly motivated by the element of surprise and enjoys the freedom of being guided by the moment. He deliberately strives for movement, a little bit of chaos, some calm, and focus. A parallel to his life.
