Steve Marcus
January 12 2023 – February 24 2023
Maine Jewish Museum – Jody Sataloff History and Art Pavilion
Internationally acclaimed New York City artist Steve Marcus’ newest exhibition titled, The Hole in the Net: The Art of Steve Marcus is a whimsical journey into a cartoon world of Kosher folk art. Marcus’ hand-drawn works of art on paper seamlessly weaves his childhood memories of family summer vacations in the beautiful state of Maine with his quirky sense of humor and his personal passion for his own roots and culture. Rather than printing an exhibition catalog, Marcus decided to publish a book titled, Fins and Scales Coloring Book which showcases and educates people on kosher and non-kosher species of aquatic life as they are coloring in or out of this black and white line drawings. The coloring book is available at the Museum gift shop. This solo exhibition opens January 12, 2023 and runs through February 24, 2023 at the Maine Jewish Museum in Portland, Maine and includes photos of Marcus at work by legendary photographer Sid Kaplan of “Vanishing New York” fame.
