Lowry’s Lodge Reading Series: National Poetry Month Celebration

Sunday, April 12 2026
1:30 – 3:00 PM

Hosted by Anna Wrobel & Jim Donnelly

Join us for an afternoon of poetry, community, and music in the Maine Jewish Museum’s historic sanctuary.

In celebration of National Poetry Month, the beloved Lowry’s Lodge Reading Series returns with a featured reading by Maine poet Alice Persons, followed by an Open Poetry Hour welcoming voices from the community. Whether you’re a lifelong poetry lover, a curious newcomer, or a writer ready to share your work, this gathering promises inspiration, connection, and creativity.

Come early — the Museum opens at 12:00 PM — to explore our galleries and soak in the beauty of our restored sanctuary before the readings begin. The afternoon will conclude with a special musical finale.

Featured Poet: Alice Persons

Poet, publisher, educator, and arts advocate, Alice Persons has been a driving force in Maine’s literary community for more than two decades. A lawyer and college instructor by training, Alice founded MoonPie Press in 2003, now widely recognized as Maine’s premier poetry press and a key force in placing Westbrook firmly on the arts-and-culture map.

Her poetry has been featured multiple times on Garrison Keillor’s NPR The Writer’s Almanac, and her work appears in numerous collections, anthologies, and journals. Alice is also deeply committed to animal welfare, editing and publishing two poetry anthologies benefiting abused horses and other animals.
