Public Menorah Lighting… in the Garden!

Sunday, December 14, 4:00 pm

Join us in the winter garden at the Maine Jewish Museum for the lighting of our brand-new, one-of-a-kind goat menorah.

Hand-carved from Maine cedar by Downeast sculptor Aaron Margolis—recently featured in Down East Magazine—this whimsical electric menorah blends Jewish folklore with Maine creativity. A carved goat sculpture stands just behind the menorah, as if watching over the lights each night, adding a playful, unexpected twist to a beloved tradition.

The gathering will include:

  • Lighting of the menorah (electric, not candlelit)
  • Traditional Chanukah blessings
  • A spirited communal sing of “Ma’oz Tzur”

No food, no RSVP — just light, song, and community in a season when we need all three.

Bundle up, bring a friend, and help us fill the winter garden with warmth and glow.

Can’t make it on the 14th? Take a stroll down Congress Street and peek in our garden, where the menorah will be lit for every night of Chanukah!
